This course offering is comprised of two class sections, ESM 104 and ESM 4. Each section of ESM 104 will have a specific companion section of ESM 4. Students must enroll in both sections.

ESM 104 awards 1 unit of baccalaureate credit (applicable towards baccalaureate degree requirements)
ESM 4 awards 2 units of pre-baccalaureate credit (NOT applicable towards baccalaureate degree requirements)

Combined course descriptions:
Solution of literal equations. Graphs and properties of linear functions including rates of change. Estimating values of nonlinear functions via interpolation/extrapolation with consideration of concavity. Simple cases of polynomial factorization. Graphs and properties of exponential functions including growth/decay, doubling times and half-lives. Solution of linear systems of equations. Sum of a finite geometric series. Includes review of integers, fractions, decimals, percentages, exponents and roots, simplification of expressions containing variables (including solving linear equations and certain quadratic equations), the rectangular coordinate system and its use for graphing functions, and areas of basic and composite geometric figures.
